J.P. Mello is a patent attorney helping elite innovators disrupt industries, offering insights based on his extensive experience as a patent attorney and as an engineer. His practice incorporates these insights into all aspects of patent counseling, preparation, and prosecution in a variety of technical fields, including medical devices, 3D printing, robotics, advanced energy generation, and software. In these areas, J.P.'s counseling is anything but one-size-fits-all. Instead, he is committed to providing nuanced and thoughtful advice according to the unique situation of each client. On the basis of this philosophy, J.P. has successfully represented clients in all stages of the technology life-cycle - from stealth-mode start-ups to publicly traded companies.
Prior to joining Strategic Patents, J.P. was Senior Intellectual Property Counsel for one of the world's largest medical device companies, serving as the lead intellectual property attorney for products generating over $400 million in annual revenue. He also worked as an attorney in the Boston office of a large, international patent law firm.
J.P.'s engineering career began as an R&D mechanical designer for a multinational telecommunications equipment company, and he later worked as a senior engineer for an international consulting company, based in Cambridge, MA. His research in the areas of electronics cooling and advanced energy generation has also given him a unique insight into the perspective of his clients — he is an inventor of sixteen U.S. patents.
